How to price items that are not a catalogue items, but produced on spec.
Why it mattered:
Buyers were often looking for non catalogue items that needed different ways of special handling and pricing.

Attempts at resolution
Built customized Pricing Application that automated existing processes. This lead to the discovery that automating manual processes is not always the best solution, even if the analysisshould that it would be, since automation itself changes the way work is done.
Solution
Re-build customized Pricing Application.  The first go-around mostly served as input to what was really useful and helped change the way the department did business.

Summary
The solution used a database based product catalogue with different price points, so the users could price the product up to any price points and add charges for the customized parts.
